Turkey's diverse geography means every season has its charm. This tour is available year-round, but certain seasons offer distinct advantages.
The Most Comprehensive Turkey Tour Itinerary
When travellers search for the best Turkey tour packages, they're often looking for a single trip that captures both the cosmopolitan energy of Istanbul and the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia — two of the world's most photographed destinations. This 9-day private guided tour adds Ankara's world-class museums and Pamukkale's Roman–thermal wonders to create the most complete Turkey experience available. Whether you've been dreaming of floating in a hot-air balloon over volcanic rock formations, or soaking in the mineral-rich waters of the ancient Cleopatra Pool, this itinerary delivers it all.
Istanbul: Where East Meets West
No Turkey holiday is complete without at least two full days in Istanbul — and this itinerary gives you three nights to truly absorb the city. You'll see Hagia Sophia, the greatest surviving monument of Byzantine architecture; the Blue Mosque with its cascade of domes and iconic six minarets; the Grand Bazaar's 4,000 shops; and the Bosphorus Strait, where continents literally touch. An optional evening Bosphorus dinner cruise with traditional music and dance turns your first night into an unforgettable cultural introduction.
Cappadocia: Turkey's Most Surreal Landscape
Two full days in Cappadocia — divided into the iconic Red Tour and Yellow Tour — give you time to explore properly. Walk through the eerie Devrent Valley where erosion has sculpted rocks into animal shapes, visit the ancient monks' chimneys of Paşabağ, descend into the 5,000-year-old Derinkuyu Underground City, and see the frescoed rock-cut churches of Zelve and Göreme. Cappadocia is best experienced slowly, and this itinerary allows you to do exactly that.
Pamukkale: UNESCO's Cotton Castle
Pamukkale's travertine terraces are formed by calcium-rich thermal water cascading over calcite shelves — creating a landscape so surreal it was used as a natural spa by the Romans, Greeks and Byzantines alike. Above the terraces, the ancient city of Hierapolis contains one of the finest Roman theatres in Asia Minor, a vast necropolis, and the legendary Cleopatra Pool where you can swim among sunken marble columns. This tour dedicates a full day to exploring both.

AI-Powered Travel Tips
Our travel AI has analysed thousands of traveller reviews and local expert insights to give you the smartest tips for getting the most from this itinerary.
Book the Balloon Early
Hot-air balloon rides in Cappadocia sell out weeks in advance, especially in autumn. Book at least 3–4 weeks before your travel date and choose a company with a CAA-certified pilot. Early sunrise flights (05:30–06:00) offer the best light and fewest crowds.
Visit Hagia Sophia at Opening
Hagia Sophia opens at 09:00 and the first 45 minutes offer dramatically fewer visitors and better photography opportunities — particularly of the apse mosaic of the Virgin and Child. By 10:30 it becomes very busy with group tours.
The Pamukkale Barefoot Rule
Shoes must be removed at Pamukkale's entry gate — pack a small waterproof bag for them. The calcium terraces look brilliant white but can be slippery; take your time and use the handrails. The warm water feels wonderful but pool depths vary (5–30 cm).
Best Photo Spots
For iconic Cappadocia shots, position yourself at Esentepe at 08:00–09:30 when balloons are still aloft. For Istanbul, the view from Galata Tower or Pierre Loti Hill at sunset captures the entire silhouette — Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapı together on the skyline.
What to Eat & Where
In Cappadocia: testi kebap (meat slow-cooked in a sealed clay pot, broken open tableside) is a signature dish. In Istanbul: try balik ekmek (grilled mackerel sandwich) on the Galata Bridge at lunch. In Pamukkale: the thermal hotels serve excellent local Aegean produce.
November Travel Notes
Late November can bring rain to Istanbul and cold evenings in Cappadocia (dipping to 5–8°C at night). Pack a waterproof layer and warm base layers for Cappadocia. The upside: Pamukkale and Hierapolis are delightfully uncrowded, and November light is superb for photography across all destinations.
Money-Saving Suggestions
The Museum Pass Turkey (approx. €25) covers Topkapı Palace, Göreme Open Air Museum and several other sites — if you plan to visit multiple optional extras, it can save significantly. Exchange currency at the PTT (post office) or bank rather than airport bureaux for the best rates.
Add a Hammam Experience
A traditional Turkish hammam (bath) is one of the most distinctive cultural experiences in Istanbul. The Çemberlitaş Hamamı (1584, designed by Sinan) or the Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamamı offer an authentic scrub and massage experience — allow 1.5–2 hours. Best enjoyed on Day 2 evening after the walking tour.
Cappadocia: Walk Between Valleys
If weather permits, the 4 km walk between Rose Valley and Red Valley (connecting via the cave church trail) is one of the finest short hikes in Turkey. Your guide can arrange a one-way walk with vehicle pickup at the other end — ask about this during Day 5.
Traveller Stories
What Our Travellers Say
The Cappadocia balloon at sunrise was the single most beautiful thing I've ever witnessed — and I've been to 34 countries. The cave hotel, the underground city, the pottery class in Avanos... every day delivered something we'd never experienced before. Our guide Ahmed was simply extraordinary: knowledgeable, funny, patient and passionate. Worth every penny.
Cappadocia · Pamukkale · IstanbulWe were nervous about such a packed itinerary but it was perfectly paced. Private transport meant no waiting for group buses. The Ankara day surprised us most — the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations alone is worth the trip to Turkey. Hagia Sophia with a knowledgeable guide is a completely different experience to visiting alone. Swimming in the Cleopatra Pool among Roman columns was surreal.
Cultural · History · Private TourThe Pamukkale terraces at opening time (before the crowds arrive) are absolutely breathtaking — glowing white in the early morning light, warm water in the pools, views across the entire valley. The private nature of this tour meant our guide adjusted the entire day based on what we wanted to spend more time on. We ended up spending three hours in Hierapolis because we couldn't tear ourselves away from the theatre.
