More than a tour guide, a friendly host
“Mehmet and Sebahattin were more than tour guides, they were hosts showing the beauty of their country. My wife and I had a full day tour of Istanbul. We had a great lunch and toured all of the main mosques and Topkapi. It was a truly memorable day. The price was fair and I recommend them wholeheartedly.”
Make Your Istanbul Layover Actually Count
This Istanbul layover tour is built for travelers passing through Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) with a day or two to spare. Istanbul rewards even a short visit, because its major sights sit close together in the historic Sultanahmet district. Instead of waiting at the airport or piecing together last-minute plans, a private guide meets you on arrival and handles every detail: airport transfers, a central hotel with breakfast and a full day through the city's essential landmarks.
The programme is a complete Istanbul stopover tour and Istanbul transit tour in one package. In 3 days and 2 nights you see the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, the Hippodrome, Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern and the Grand Bazaar, the six places that most first-time visitors want to see. Because the tour is entirely private, the schedule adjusts around your actual flight times rather than a fixed departure slot.
Istanbul layover tour from IST and SAW airports
Istanbul is one of the world's busiest transfer hubs, and many connecting itineraries leave a gap of one or two nights. Whether you land at Istanbul Airport (IST) on the European side or at Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side, a driver and guide are arranged for you, with a private transfer to a hotel in the Old City. The same private vehicle takes you back to the correct airport for your onward flight, so there is no confusion between the two airports and no risk of missing a connection.
Istanbul cruise port tour from Galataport
The tour also works as an Istanbul cruise port tour for passengers arriving before or leaving after a sailing from one of Istanbul's cruise terminals, including Galataport. Port pick-up, the hotel nights, the guided Old City day and the final transfer are timed around your embarkation or disembarkation, which makes it a simple way to add 3 days in Istanbul to a Mediterranean or Black Sea cruise.
Why stay in Sultanahmet for a short Istanbul visit
Sultanahmet is the heart of the historic Old City of Istanbul and a UNESCO World Heritage area. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome and the Basilica Cistern are all within a short walk of each other, and Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar are only a few minutes further. Staying here means more sightseeing and less time in traffic, which is exactly what a short stay in Istanbul needs.
Tight connection? Send us your flight or cruise times when you enquire. Pick-up, tour hours and the final transfer are planned around them, so you never risk your onward journey. If your layover is shorter than two nights, tell us as well: because the tour is private, the guided day can be moved, shortened or re-ordered to fit the time you really have in Istanbul.
Ideal for layover & cruise travelers
If your international itinerary brings you through Istanbul with a couple of days to spare, this is a well-organized, private way to see the highlights without the stress of planning it yourself. Pre- and post-cruise travelers get the same benefit, with port transfers arranged around the sailing schedule.
The central hotel keeps everything within reach of Sultanahmet, so there is no wasted commuting between the airport, the sights and your bed. Couples, families and solo travelers all use this private Istanbul tour as an easy first introduction to Turkey, and many return later for Cappadocia, Ephesus or a longer Turkey package.

Day 2: Old City Tour
Your private guide collects you from the hotel at 09:00 for a full day through six landmarks, with skip-the-line entry handled for you. The programme finishes at about 17:00 at the Grand Bazaar, leaving the evening free for dinner, a Whirling Dervish show or a Bosphorus cruise.

Day 2 walking order
3-Day Istanbul Layover Itinerary at a Glance
The 3-day Istanbul layover itinerary keeps things simple: an easy arrival day, one full guided day through the Old City of Istanbul, and a stress-free departure. The sights of Day 2 are all in the Sultanahmet area, so you see six major landmarks without losing hours in traffic.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Tap any day to see what you will do, where you sleep and what is included. Timings are approximate and are adjusted around your flight or cruise times, traffic and opening hours.
Your journey begins with a personal meet-and-greet at the airport or cruise port. After check-in the rest of the day is free, so you can rest or wander at your own pace.
Meet & greet and private transfer
A member of the team welcomes you at Istanbul Airport (IST), Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) or your cruise terminal, holding a name sign, and helps you with your luggage. You then travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to your centrally located hotel in the Old City. There is no waiting for shared shuttles and no negotiating with taxis after a long flight, and your driver tracks your arrival time so the pick-up works even if the flight is delayed.
Hotel check-in and free time
Check-in is from 14:00, and we will ask the hotel for an early check-in if you arrive in the morning. Once settled, the rest of the day is yours: rest after your flight, enjoy a first Turkish tea, or take a short stroll through the nearby streets of Sultanahmet to get your bearings. Your travel consultant stays in touch by email or WhatsApp, and can confirm the next morning's meeting time with your guide.
A light first day, so you are fresh for the Old City tour.
After breakfast, meet your private English-speaking guide in the hotel lobby at 09:00 for a full day through the historic Old City. Your guide handles skip-the-line entry throughout the day.
Blue Mosque
The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, completed in 1616, is famous for its cascade of domes, six minarets and thousands of blue İznik tiles that give it its popular name. Your guide explains the history of the building and the architecture of the courtyard before you enter the prayer hall. It is a working mosque, so visits pause at prayer times; modest dress is required, women may wish to carry a scarf, and shoes are removed at the entrance.
Hagia Sophia
Justinian's great church, finished in 537, has served as a Byzantine cathedral, an Ottoman mosque and a museum, and is a mosque again today. Your guide explains the engineering of the enormous dome, the surviving Byzantine mosaics and the Ottoman calligraphy and additions that sit together under one roof. It is one of the most historically layered buildings in the world, and the guide helps you read it room by room.
Hippodrome
The old chariot track of Constantinople, now Sultanahmet Square, was the centre of public life in Byzantine Istanbul, with races, ceremonies and political events held before huge crowds. Today it is marked by the Egyptian Obelisk of Theodosius, the bronze Serpent Column brought from Delphi and the German Fountain. It is a short, easy walk between the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, and a good place to understand how the Old City is laid out.
Topkapı Palace
The residence of the Ottoman sultans for centuries, Topkapı Palace is a series of courtyards, pavilions and royal chambers rather than a single building. Your guide leads you through the gates and courtyards, explains how the court and the imperial household worked, and points out the royal artifacts and the terraces with views over the Bosphorus. Entrance fees are paid separately, and the palace is closed on Tuesdays.
Basilica Cistern
This 6th-century underground reservoir was built under Emperor Justinian to store water for the city. Walkways take you through a forest of ancient columns, softly lit and reflected in shallow water, including two columns that rest on carved Medusa heads. It is a cool, atmospheric stop in any season and a very different experience from the mosques and palaces above ground. Entrance is paid separately and your guide handles the queue.
Grand Bazaar
One of the world's oldest and largest covered markets, with a maze of vaulted lanes selling ceramics, lamps, textiles, spices, jewelry and Turkish delight. Your guide explains how the different lanes are organized, suggests where to shop and how to bargain politely, and helps you find authentic crafts rather than tourist copies. The tour ends here, so you can keep shopping or walk back to the hotel at your own pace. The bazaar is closed on Sundays.
The tour wraps up by about 17:00 and the evening is free. A Whirling Dervish show or a Bosphorus dinner cruise can be arranged on request.
Enjoy a final Turkish breakfast at the hotel before checking out.
Private departure transfer
Depending on your flight or cruise schedule, a comfortable private transfer takes you to the airport or cruise port, so you leave Istanbul stress-free with your onward journey already sorted. Check-out is by 12:00, and luggage can usually be held at the hotel if your departure is later in the day. We confirm the pick-up time with you the evening before and allow a safe margin for Istanbul traffic and airport procedures.
Safe travels, and we hope to see you again for more of Turkey.

The History Tips for Your Istanbul Layover
Practical suggestions for making a short stay in Istanbul easy.
Short stay or long layover?
Tell us your arrival and departure times when you enquire. Tour hours, hotel check-in and transfers are planned around them, and because the tour is private, the Old City day can be shortened or moved to fit your flights.
Cruise passengers
Port transfers are arranged around your sailing, including Galataport, so you board with time to spare. The guided day can start later or finish earlier to match your embarkation or disembarkation time.
Mind the opening days
Topkapı Palace is closed on Tuesdays and the Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays. Your guide orders the landmarks of the day accordingly, so you do not arrive at a closed gate.
Photography lovers
Sultanahmet Square in the morning light, the Topkapı terraces and the Bosphorus views are the best frames of the day. Bring a spare battery and a lens cloth for the dusty Old City lanes.
First time in Turkey?
Treat Istanbul as a destination, not just a transit stop. Two nights and one guided day give you a real introduction to Byzantine and Ottoman history, and often inspire a longer return trip.
Booking your layover
Send us your flight or cruise details, passport name and preferred dates. A 40% deposit confirms the tour, and your finalized itinerary follows once we have received the deposit and passport details.
What to pack
Best time to go
Spring (Apr–May) · Best
Mild days and green parks make this one of the best times for walking the Old City. Evenings can be cool, so keep a light jacket in your day bag.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Hot and busy at the main sights. Start early, wear sun protection, drink plenty of water and use the cool Basilica Cistern as a break.
Autumn (Sep–Oct) · Best
Pleasant temperatures, softer light for photographs and slightly thinner crowds, which makes it a very comfortable season for a short stay.
Winter (Nov–Mar)
Cool and often rainy, but the sights are much quieter. Bring a rain jacket, an umbrella and warm layers for the open courtyards of Topkapı.
Local tip: the Blue Mosque closes to visitors during the five daily prayers, with a longer closure around Friday midday prayers, and the Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays. Your guide plans the order of the day around these times, so you rarely lose time waiting. Women may wish to carry a scarf for mosque visits, and everyone should wear comfortable shoes that are easy to take off.
Documents & visas: a valid passport is required for hotel registration. This tour does not include visa services, so check Turkey's official e-Visa portal for your entry requirements before you travel. Requirements depend on your nationality and on whether you stay inside the airport or enter the city, so it is worth confirming them early, before you book your flights and tour.

Perfect customised Istanbul itinerary
“Sebahattin meticulously planned our customised itinerary at Istanbul perfectly. The arrangement from the first to the last attraction just simply made sense the way he planned it. In addition, when one of our family members was unwell and he found out about it, he immediately sprang into action and made changes to our itinerary to allow for more rest, yet we were able to cover all the attractions after he had made changes to the plan. Finally, we always enjoyed having our wonderful conversations at his office over his delicious Turkish tea. Thank you, Sebahattin, for making our first visit to Turkey such a memorable one. We loved it so much that we are planning to contact you again for an encore!”
